SODALITE
Sodalite is a tectosilicate mineral with the chemical formula Na₈Al₆Si₆O₂₄ Cl₂. It is a member of the feldspathoid mineral group and has a Mohs hardness of 5 - 6. Sodalite is considered a rare rock-forming mineral that is best known for its beautiful blue to violet coloration and accompaniment of contrasting white veins; additionally, green and yellow colorations have also been observed, but are most often considered less valuable; furthermore, rare varieties of the mineral may occasionally fluoresce under particular wavelengths of UV light. This is due to impurities in its chemical structure. Sodalite most often occurs in igneous rocks that are crystallized from sodium-rich magmas, and although massive sodalite samples are generally opaque, crystals of the material are typically transparent to translucent. Sodalite is a member of the sodalite group of minerals along with hauyne, nosean, lazurite, and tugtupite.
Initially discovered by Europeans in the year 1811, within the Ilimaussaq intrusive complex of Greenland, sodalite did not become widely delegated as an ornamental stone until the year 1891. It was then that vast deposits of fine quality material were first discovered in Ontario, Canada.
SODALITE METAPHYSICS
Metaphysically, sodalite is considered a very useful stone of the Throat and Third Eye Chakras. It is said that sodalite can aid its user with mental clarity and focus while contributing to forward progress through intuitive action. Often called “the Logic Stone”, it is said that sodalite has the ability to encourage critical thinking and deep thought patterns. Additionally, it is said that the stone can help its user with necessary articulation of feelings and truth-based conversations.
Physically, sodalite is said to aid the body’s immune system response and white blood cell regeneration. Additionally, it is said to aid the body with fluid retention, esophageal disorder, and injuries of the neck and cervical spine.
